Ram Kumar

Born in Simla, Ram Kumar studied art while working on a Masters Degree in Economics from the St. Stephenís College, New Delhi. In 1949, he left for Paris to study painting under Andre Lhote and in 1950 he joined Atelier Fernand Leger. Kumar received the prestigious John D. Rockefeller III Fellowship to visit and travel to the United States in 1970 where he met Souza, Samant, and Krishna Reddy among others. Ram Kumarís works have been exhibited regularly in India and internationally including New York, London, Peru, Greece, Paris, Iran and Japan. In 1972, the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri, one of the highest civilian awards; The Madhya Pradesh State Government awarded him with the Kalidas Samman in 1985 and he received the Uttar Pradesh State Government award in 1975. Ram Kumar lives and works in New Delhi.
