Laxman Shreshtha born in Siraha, Nepal, and grew up in Darbhanga, in northern Bihar. After his degree at the University of Patna, he moved to Bombay to study at the Sir J.J School of Art. He then left for Europe to continue his studies at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts, Paris, and later the Central School of Art in London. During this time Shreshtha also spent time at the Academie Grande Chaumiere and S.W. Hayterís Atelier 17 in Paris.
He held his first exhibition at Taj Art Gallery, Mumbai (1963) and has subsequently exhibited in several international and Indian cities.
